County Facts |
| Sevier
County (pronounced "Severe") is quite large, measuring
over 603 square miles and includes the cities of Gatlinburg,
Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, & Seymour. The population of
the county is approximately 61,000 persons according to the
most recent estimates. The area is named after John Sevier,
the first governor of the state of Tennessee, and one of the
area's earliest statesmen. The city of Sevierville itself is
201 years old, the focal point of the city being the county
courthouse, built in 1895-96 for a total of $22,000. The area's
most famous hometown girl is Dolly Parton, born on Locust Ridge
on January 19, 1946. One of 12 children, she attended school
here and went on to fame and fortune as a country music singer,
songwriter, and actress. Her family still lives here and the
Dollywood Theme Park, which is the area's largest tourist attraction,
is a permanent reminder of her influence and contributions to
our county. |
